Thank you for considering me for your home inspection, deck inspection, or radon measurement. Why hire me? You’ll get a skilled and knowledgeable home inspector looking after your interests. During my college accountant training, I was taught the concept of “Professional Skepticism” and not to believe anything I heard or read without further examination. I’ve brought this skepticism with me while inspecting homes. I might not tell you what you want to hear, but I will tell you what you need to know..

I’m no stranger to construction. I’ve been a Do-It-Yourself boy and man in home improvement since I was twelve, working with my dad. Check out my Home Improvement section for the videos and pictures. I’ve replaced entire windows and doors for family and friends. I renovated two bathrooms for my mother, from the basement plumbing to the root vents. Check out the pictures and videos! Between my skills, knowledge, professional skepticism, and extensive DIY home improvement projects… You will get not just a home inspector but someone experienced and who knows what is “well-built.”

Attic Fan Project

In 2015, I watched an episode of “This Old House” that showed how to install a whole-house fan. The fan was specifically designed to be highly insulated during the winter and highly efficient in moving air in the summer. It used two rectangular blocks of high-density polystyrene to insulate the fan’s opening during the winter. An articulating mechanism raised and lowered the blocks automatically.

I had to get one. My mother’s house, where I was raised, did not have an attic fan or central air conditioning, so we suffered in the summer for fifty-plus years.

So I bought a Tamarack model HV1000 fan and installed it. A lot of planning went into where to cut the hole in the ceiling and how to install the electrical service to the unit. It took three days working by myself, but I got it running.

I didn’t regret installing the fan in that hot attic. It made a noticeable difference, and our quality of life improved greatly.
